ON PREPARATION
You should practice with a purpose. Personally, it would really frustrate me to practice for three or four hours in the morning, walk away, and two hours later say to myself, "Gee, I wish I had worked a little harder on this or that." It's the quality of the time you spend practicing that counts, not the length of time.

YOU'D BETTER RUN
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.

Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.

It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up you'd better be running.

ON FAILURES
Most successes have been built on failures, not on one failure alone but several. A majority of the great history accomplishments of the past have been the final result of a persistent struggle against discouragement and failure. A man is never beaten until he thinks he is.

A HIGHLY RESILIENT PERSON (2 of 2)
Highly resilient people show many similar qualities :
Express feelings honestly : Can experience and express anger, love, dislike, appreciation, grief – the entire human emotions honestly and openly. Can also choose to suppress their feelings when they believe it would be best to do so.
Expect things to work out well : Deep optimism guided by internal values and standards. high tolerance for ambiguity and uncertainty. Can work without a job description, is a good role model of professionalism. Has a synergistic effect, brings stability to crises and chaos. Ask "How can I interact with this so that things turn out well for all of us?"
Read others with empathy : See things through perspective of others, even antagonists. Win/win/win attitude in conflicts. Ask "What do others think and feel? What is it like to be them? How do they experience me? What is legitimate about what they feel, say and do?"
Use intuition, creative hunches : Accept subliminal perception and intuition as valid, useful sources of information. Ask "What is my body telling me? Did that daydream mean anything? Why don’t I believe what I’m being told? What if I did this?"
Defend self well : Avoid and block attacks, fight back. See through and side-step cons, "games" and manipulations that others attempt. Find allies, resources and support.
Have a talent for serendipity : Learning lessons in the school of life is the antidote to feeling victimized. They can convert a situation that is emotionally toxic for others into something emotionally nutritious for them. They thrive in situations distressing to others because they learn good lessons from bad experiences. They convert misfortune into good luck and gain strength from adversity.
Get better and better every decade : Become increasingly life competent, resilient, durable, playful and free. Spend less time surviving than others and survive major adversities better. Enjoy life more and more.

ACTION
Action is indeed therapy. It erases doubts and fears, anxieties and worries. It capitalizes on failures and mistakes and turns them into positive influences. It exercises the mind for problem solving and for creativity. It develops poise under pressure and uses wisdom and experience to consider alternatives and to provide a back-up plan. It calls forth the best in us all and it becomes the password to success. Action is work and work is happiness.

ONE AND ONLY YOU
Every single blade of grass, And every flake of snow - Is just a wee bit different... There's no two alike, you know. From something small, like grains of sand, All were made with THIS in mind: To be what they are!

How foolish then, to imitate - How useless to pretend! Since each one of us comes from a MIND Whose ideas never end.

There'll only be just ONE of ME. To show what I can do - And you should likewise feel very proud, There's only ONE of YOU. That is where it all starts With you, a wonderful unlimited human being.

THE NEXT TIME
Robert Louis Stevenson wrote, "To travel hopefully is better than to arrive." This could be written for fishermen, "It is better to fish hopefully than to catch fish." Fishing is hope experienced. To be optimistic in a slow bite is to thrive on hope alone. When asked, "How can you fish all day without a bite?" the true fisherman replies, "Hold it! I think I felt something." If the line goes slack, he says, "He'll be back!"

When it comes to the human spirit, hope is all. Without hope, there is no yearning, no desire for a better tomorrow and no belief that the next cast will bring the big strike.

CUSTOMER SERVICE
Marshall Field, founder of the Chicago department store that bears his name, once overheard one of his clerks arguing with a customer. He asked what was going on.

"I'm settling a complaint," said the clerk.

"No, you're not," said Field. "Give the lady what she wants."

TAKE CHARGE
It is not enough to work conscientiously. No matter what kind of job [you have], you should think of yourself as being completely in charge of and responsible for your work, like being the president of your own company.

By doing so, not only the appropriate devices be made [and] new discoveries be born, [you will] also greatly assist your own self development.

TWO HAPPINESS TRAPS
We postpone our happiness - “ I’ll be happy when....” (When the house is paid off, when we go to Phuket, Bali, or Hawaii, when I find a better job...). We look back to the past and say, “If I have known today was going to be so awful, I would have been happy yesterday.”

HAPPINESS is not a when - Happiness is a now.
