LIKE WHAT YOU ARE DOING
One of my favourite questions to ask applicants I'm interviewing is : "What prompted you to apply here?" Over and over again, I've heard, "I thought you might have something available I would like." Our organization doesn't have positions people automatically like. However, we have committed people who love what they do. I'm baffled by the number of people who spend five-sevenths of their week doing something they don't like so they can spend the other two-sevenths doing what they enjoy.

"Whether we find pleasure in work or whether we find it a bore," said BC Forbes, "depends entirely on our mental attitude." Sister Mary Lauretta adds, " To be successful, the first thing to do is fall in love with your work." In other words, the secret to happiness, success, satisfaction and fulfillment in our work is not doing what one likes, but in liking what one does.

When all else fails, listen to the advice of the seven dwarfs : "Whistle while you work."

THE WISE WAY - Parodoxical Commandments

  • People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centred; Forgive them anyway
  • If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.
  • If you are successful, you will win some false friends and true enemies; Succeed anyway.
  • If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway.
  • What you spend years building, someone may destroy overnight; Build anyway.
  • If you find serenity and happiness, others may be jealous; Be happy anyway.
  • The good you do today, people may often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway.
  • Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you got anyway.
  • You see, in the final analysis, it is all between you and GOD; It was never between you and them anyway.
